Good afternoon everyone and happy Wednesday! Today I am writing about one of my favorite cities in the U.S. and one that is a great weekend escape–Chicago. I have done plenty of features on this city (probably because I am always discovering more about it). Now that the kids are back in school and Starbucks has rolled out the Pumpkin Spice Latte for the season, fall is on everyone’s mind. Now I know the official start date doesn’t come until the 22nd, but we are so close I can hear my leggings and Ugg boots calling my name. So with that we are pretending it’s officially fall, despite the very warm weather, and I am going to give you some highlights happening this fall in Chicago.
For those of you looking for a last minute escape this weekend, the German-American Oktoberfest held near the Western Brown line stop is happening this Friday-Sunday. Sample German beers, foods as well as folk music and dancing. Because the fest runs all weekend you will still have time to take in some great sights as well as amazing food that Chicago has to offer.
If you are looking to plan a trip in a couple of weeks then October is going to be a great time to be in the city. For all the beer lovers out there October 1st is the day. The annual Logan Square Beer Festival is being held with over 50 beers from 20 local breweries. Stop by the event and enjoy a day of fun and frothy drinks. If you are looking for a family weekend then anytime from October 13-23rd would be a great time to come down with the kids. These 10 days are known as Museum week. During this time 12 of Chicago’s best museums come together to offer extended hours, events and new exhibits all with great pricing for the whole family.
Aside from the great events happening this fall you can also experience things in Chicago that happen year round. One of which is the architecture boat tour. This hour and a half experience brings you down Chicago’s river allowing you to learn about and enjoy the beautiful view and the rich history Chicago’s skyline has to offer. You can also take in a show, concert or comedy club. I suggest heading over to Second City in Old Town. Here you can laugh the night away with comics who filter into new cast members on SNL.
