Grand Rapids

Traveling is one of my favorite things to do, which makes sense because I work in travel, write about it daily and research it constantly. With this being said, being the woman behind the computer means that I can work from wherever I am. If you have followed my blog for the last few months you will know that I have travelled to the East Coast, Las Vegas, but most often, throughout the Midwest. Since I was little I loved any kind of travel. I grew up in Michigan’s Upper Peninsula and loved spending my weekends in Appleton and Green Bay. I would make itineraries, set up dinner reservations, and plan out all my outfits days before we left.  I am still the same to this day. I have several trips planned for this fall, most to Michigan, but I will also be spending my Christmas and New Year’s in Europe on my honeymoon on a Viking River Cruise. Make sure to check back for blog posts and pictures from that exciting adventure.

Grand_Rapids_MIToday, though, I am here to talk about Grand Rapids. A few weeks ago we travelled there for a wedding, but I thought it was definitely a city to highlight on our blog. Grand Rapids, in my opinion, is the perfect city. It’s big without being overwhelming, but has the green space and water element that outdoor and nature lovers can enjoy. While there I obviously had the famous Founders beer, but found myself more drawn to their just as good, but lesser known, craft liquor selection. One of our stops throughout the weekend was a restaurant called Flatlanders. Here we drank craft cocktails and had some great food. My recommendations are their apple sweet potato fritters and their Parmesan garlic French fries. We stuck to appetizers but I am sure everything is great. Later that evening we headed downtown to the Amway Grand hotel, which by the way I would highly recommend, cygnusbodyto their Cygnus room on the 27th floor. Here I enjoyed a side car (or 2) and marveled at the spectacular views. I would recommend staying downtown if you are headed to Grand Rapids, lots to do, and it’s such a beautiful and extremely clean city. On the day of the wedding we enjoyed the beauty of a true Grand Rapid’s gem, Frederik Meijer Gardens. Typically this is a destination for tourists and locals alike to view plant life, sculptures and the true natural beauty of the area. It was also a fabulous wedding location. Overall Grand Rapids was amazing and proves time and time again why it is one of my favorite cities in the U.S.
