Un-Belize-able

One of the best parts about working in the travel industry is getting to work with people who love to travel. Walk into our offices and know that everyone has a story to tell. I love listening to my co-workers talk about different places they have visited and adventures they have had. Although I have never been to Belize, Brittany’s description below makes me want to grab my snorkel and flippers and book my trip today!

“For a family wedding I went to down Caye Caulker, Belize. Its this small island thats about a 45 min boat ride out of Belize City.  I have never seen such blue clear waters in my life. The island we stayed at is a very small fishing community, there are no paved roads, and you either walk or bike to everywhere you want to go.  There was a little cafe in the middle of the island that made fresh elephant ears every morning. They were flaky, and fresh, with cinnamon and sugar on them, so amazing.  We went on a few excursions while we were there.  We did a few days of snorkeling.  The best was when we went to Turneffee Islands.  It was a decent boat ride away.. i’d say maybe an hour.  The sun came out and the wind died and it turned into the best snorkeling weather. We were probably in about 20 feet of water but you could easily see through the crystal clear waters all the way to the bottom.  On the bottom were huge (maybe 10 ft tall and 5 ft diameter) mounds of coral formations.  They were spaced out a little, but you could still see a ton within your view.  And they were filled with marine life.  We saw huge Angel fish, stone fish, batfish, parrot fish, baracudda, sting rays and all sorts of other sea animals. It was nice being able to look down and watch them in their element, without having to be in the middle of it.  We were floating about 10 feet above, so they still swam around without paying much attention to us.  “

I have been snorkeling before and I have taken tropical vacations, but Belize sounds breathtaking. Getting to experience beautiful places is a luxury in life that I would never take for granted. There is a quote that goes, “Travel is the only thing you buy that makes you richer.” And I honestly can’t think of a better way to say it myself.
